10 ladies and 6 men represented the club at Warley Woods, with the Ladies’ team finishing in 6th place whilst the men’s team was 16th.
Our ladies battled the windy conditions as they competed in the second of four cross-country league fixtures.
The 3rd fixture is at Gloucester on 16th January.
5 Sphinx runners made the trip to Warley Woods to compete in the 3rd round of the 5-round season. Conditions were challenging and they all did themselves and the club proud.
The next fixture is on 17th January at Burbage Common, Nuneaton.
We have the following reports from our captains; firstly, Fiona:
The cross country relays took place in Uttoxeter which was the first time for all of us on the course so we didn’t know what to expect. The course was made up of two laps around Bramshall Road Park. The rain stayed away which was nice but it did mean that there wasn’t much slipping and sliding around the course. There were two water features but they were only small, I think these were included just to break us in gently in preparation for Leamington on the 7th November!!!! The race was an uphill finish which was tough going but thankfully there was tea and cake waiting for us at the end J
and from Wayne:
Four sphinx men and 6 ladies made the trip up north (although it was just about in the midlands) for the 5km relay in Uttoxeter. Equality playing a part we raced over the same distance as the ladies ,
Not a day for spikes as the ground was too hard especially the 200m tarmac path section which they forgot to mention on the course description. It did have 2 water crossings which acted like a warm up for Newbold Common next month !!!!!
Very high standard of running and we managed 34th place out of 38 teams. Although highlight of leg I was in 5th place going around the first corner, which was only 60mts from the start however that was as good as it got for the captain as then went backwards down the field. Well done to Sphinx ladies who again managed to put out two teams. Thanks to Fi for Photo’s.
6 juniors ran In the first event of the Warwickshire Cross Country league at Northampton. 3 first timers and 3 returning for another season. The weather was warm and sunny making for good conditions on a fairly tough undulating ( that means hilly) course. All ran great races and vowed to run again later in the season. Thanks to the parents for supporting all the juniors and to Jackie Timms, Sue Gough and Bob Carey for helping in the finish funnel.
A hardy bunch of Sphinx runners and supporters made their way down to London Town for the 2015 English National Cross Country Championships. 4 men and 6 ladies were cheered on by the blue and gold support.
6 junior athletes from Sphinx attended the last x country meet at Alexander Stadium. A cold and damp day greeted us and once again there was a great atmosphere as athletes jostled for position in the final race. Our 6 competed well, without complaint and, sorry Mr Chairman they all enjoyed themselves.
Special mention to Braydon, Daniel, Michael, Adam and Annie who competed in all 5 races this season. well done and thanks to all the other juniors who raced this season.
Sphinx runners put in very good performances at the first race. The Ladies ran first and churned the course up nicely…thanks ladies 😉
Thanks to everyone for representing the club, helping with logistics, and the all-important tea and cake!
The second fixture is on the 6th December where another good turnout would be welcome!
