A bumper parkrun Saturday and a great way to start the I am Team GB day of sport. Well done to Allen El-Sour and Rachael Allen on their new PBs. The McSharrys went to Reading parkun for the first time, Andy McIntosh went Danish at Amager Faelled parkrun, Laura Pibworth-Dolinski was a first-timer at Stewart (Middlesbrough) parkrun and Andy Hales did likewise at Tewkesbury.
A PB at Coventry for Rachael Allen, a PB at Stratford for Ian Cunningham, 1st time appearances at Delemare for Steve Osmond and Blandford for Ruth Hallett, and a well-oiled machine at Coventry as Andy Wilkinson race-directed, ably assisted by: Andy Hales, Imran Ali, Kev Dick, Lisa Abbott, Robyn McSharry & Victoria Hand.
Well done to Lucy Wheatley, Vicky Hand, Lore Paterson and Alex Bartlett on setting PBs at the weekend. Lucy, Vicky and Lore improved their overall parkrun PB and Alex improved his QE course PB.
Well done to Kevin Dick and Ella Wilkinson for new PBs at Coventry. Kevin’s fine effort also pushed him into a top 5 place. Elsewhere, Helen King, Katie Timms and her partner, Tom Padgett completed Leamington parkrun for the first time; Andy Wilkinson was a first timer at Highbury Fields; and Andy Hales made his debut at Conkers.
Well done Kathryn Stuart – first lady at Whitstable. Elsewhere, there was a first-time appearance at Arrow Valley for Andy Hales, and Paul Slatford finished in the top 5 at Coventry.
Well done to Catherine Gough on finishing as first female at Cambridge parkrun, bagging a PB in the process. Well done also to Thomas Morgan on a Coventry PB. Elsewhere, there were a couple of first-timers: Imran Ali at Arrow Valley’s fancy-dress-themed 4th birthday and Andy Hales at Braunstone.
parkrun tourism was to the fore last weekend as Andy Hales and Imran Ali debuted at Northampton, Catherine Gough made her first appearance at Cambridge and Steve Osmond was a first timer at Medina, Isle of Wight.
Mitch has sent a report from Brueton, and there were first-time appearances aplenty elsewhere.
Over to Mitch:
With the Memorial Park out of action, for our Saturday morning Park Run ‘fix’ Will Robertson, Andy Mc and I made the short trip to Solihull for the Brueton Park Run. On arrival we discovered that the start had been moved to near the tennis courts, which meant that the first kilometre was a slight downhill to start with (as the courts were on your immediate left) and then a right turn onto a long flat section. Running on the right of the path, rather than the customary left at Brueton, we went anticlockwise round the copse of trees, then back along the usual route before turning right at the tennis courts and running anticlockwise round them, before repeating the exercise for the second lap. A course debut for Will and a very creditable time despite the jet lag, but pride of place goes to Macca, who, once again wearing his new ‘Sphinx’ coloured trainers, achieved a second PB in 6 days. He followed up his 10K PB at Prestwold last Sunday with not only a course PB, but an all-time 5K PB of 20:11 and a top 30 finish (out of 443 runners). So, just 2 seconds a kilometre short of that elusive 20 minute barrier and then you can enjoy a long and happy retirement mate (bit like Wayne!).
Stop Press: Final mention and congratulations to Vicky Hand who also did ‘the double’ of a course PB and an all-time 5K record time of 28:57.
At Coventry, Fintan McSharry completed his 100th parkrun and Alexander O’Brien achieved a new PB. Elsewhere, Alex Bartlett ran the Colby parkrun for the first time.
