Results for the Candleford Canter Ladies 10k, 30-Oct-2016

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following write-up:

After a run of recent Pb’s Vickie did some research and found us a ‘Flat 10’ so with her support crew ; Holly and I in place we set of to Bicester for the Candleford Canter Ladies 10k.

With our friendship hanging in the balance the only thing could come between us was time 😉 As we arrived at the local Village hall we soon spotted an array of homemade cakes for after. The race had a lovely community feel to it. As the women ran and the Men marshalled and a late 11am start an uncertainty filled the air of was gonna cook the Sunday Lunch? As we set off to the sound of a very over the top starting pistol it was like being back in the dark suburbs of Bell green.

Within a minute we turned a corner we were met with a hill swiftly followed by another and then an off road section. As I ran through the rough terrain I recalled Vickie’s false promises and realised it was all just part of the Victoria Hand sales patter. I couldn’t help but feel it was a revenge tactic for the ‘Flat’ Greenway 10 miler I put her through in July. The rest of the route was relatively flat. As I was coming into finish I decided on a mini sprint finish to overtake the lady in front of me, she later came over and said “Well done” and then went onto win the Vet 65 Category. Took the shine off it a tad! The award for true sportsmanship went to our honorary sphinx Holly who helped someone over the line whilst we desperately willed her to ‘take her’ ! Flat it was not but Vickie still left with her 10k Pb by 2 minutes taking her to the sub one hour club. “She came, she saw, she conquered. Well done Vickesh 🙂

Results for the Tempo 10k Winter Series, Race 1, 23-Oct-2016

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following report:

It’s that time again, The Tempo Winter Series kicks off it’s monthly races. The series was bought by Vickie and Kev as my birthday present as I had raved about it for so long. The only way to shut me up was to buy it and join me. How do you get 250 runners to enthusiastically get out of bed on a Sunday morning and tackle the Illmington hill?

You lure them with the excitement of a hoodie if they do all 5 and a trio of Barry’s sausage at the end. It was a rickety start as our honorary Sphinx for the day Marie nearly pulled out due to a post marathon dodgy hip and Kevin was sporting his usual hangover. As they climbed into Vickie’s uber taxi a mix of deep heat and the stench of stale alcohol filled the air and I had to remind myself that that was the smell of legends who quite frankly nearly never made it. Allen was also continuing his battle going into his 3rd day with a cold sparking rumours at the start line that it had gone to his chest. Myself and Marie as Veterans of this race tried to explain the hill and that only the pro’s could run it all. As we set off for the first flat 1k and turned the corner even I thought the hill was worse than I remembered. Allen “What hill?” El sour was nowhere to be seen as he shot off at speed into the distance unfazed by the hill. I could see Kevin for a bit but he gradually pulled away showing the hangover who was boss. After tackling the hill it felt like the race finally began for me. The way down was thoroughly enjoyable and a well earned reward, elite athlete I was not but that downhill stretch allowed me to to feel it and my watch momentarily showed me a pace of 4.57. I crossed the line to find that Allen had managed a very respectable 12th place leaving us imagining how different it could’ve been without his borderline man flu. For Kevin it was an achievement to have made it though without bringing up the contents of his stomach, Vickie ran my predicted time despite telling me it was too ambitious and Massey machine Marie flew around and is now on the hip replacement list. If anyone sees Vickie at training this girl loves to talk; about her Garmin splits!

Results for the Milford Mashup, 15-Oct-2016

Thanks to Jackie Stuart for the following report:

The Milford Mashup was a 10k run on Cannock Chase. This was the third race in the Mash running series with each race held being on a slightly different area of the Chase, at different times of the year.

The run started with an uphill section which really sapped the legs. The rest of the course was very undulating with some rather testing downhill sections and two water crossings. I made the most of the uphill parts by walking and taking in the views. The autumn colours of burning orange were stunning as was the sight of about 12 deer crossing our path at great speed.

I was unable to do the summer run but both the March run and this one were very enjoyable runs.

Rachael and Barry Allen enjoyed this 10k with elevation, saying:

It was great, 650ft climb up Cleeve Hill from Sudeley castle to the highest point of the Cotswold range, before running like crazy back down. Barry even had to dodge a herd of sheep that crossed paths with the runners !

Tough one this, flat 400 metre start, same flat 400 metre finish, in between the Derbyshire Alps gave us 6 kilometres up and 4 kilometres down. One of the best organised races I have attended though, a credit to Badgers Running Club.
