Results for the Tempo 10k Winter Series, Race 5, 19-Feb-2017

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following report:

Last day of the Tempo Winter Series and the usual Sphinx lot were ready to run up ‘The’ Hill for the last time.

Course Pb for Allen and Lisa and a 2 second near miss from Vickie although she did us all proud beat Spyro in her walking shoes! What a way to bow out Vickie! Allen also notched up a very respectable 7 or 8th in the series overall (tbc)

Those who ran in all 5 races were not only rewarded with sausages but the series hoodie. A big thank you to Allen for allowing me to calm my inner diva and have his well earned hoodie. Drip of the day goes to Kevin who tried to return his new hoodie under the ‘Consumer rights act’

only to be informed that the hole in his pocket was in fact a purposely added headphone hole. We decided to put it down to an age thing. We then headed to the local pub for a reflection pint. Rumours were that Allen deliberately left his car window open on race route to avoid having to be part of the splits

and heart rate analyst club. I had at one point been torn between a new car or a Pb, as a true athlete I chose the latter.

A great series with great friends. Hopefully we will have even more of us there for the next series which starts again in October.

Results for the Gayton 10k, 22-Jan-2017

Thanks to Mitch Timms for the following report:

Not always that keen on races hosted by ‘Event Companies’ rather than recognised running clubs, but this wasn’t bad at all. If you are familiar with the EMGP Blisworth 5, read on, otherwise the next sentence will be absolutely meaningless. The course started and finished exactly where the Blisworth 5 commences, i.e. at the farm buildings, but instead of running downhill into Blisworth then uphill out again, you pick up the EMGP route right outside the farmyard, follow the same road until Gayton, then, instead of turning left, you take a right and do a complete anticlockwise circle north of this village before returning, and then turning right into it to pick up the last 4kms of the EMGP route. Hilly, frosty but sunny and a very well organised event with a medal at the end – and you could buy a t-shirt with all the runners’ names on it for £15 (no thanks!). The one unusual facet of the race – and a running first for me – was that the kilometre markers counted DOWN to the finish – this proved to be disconcerting initially, but a little bit more motivational (though not too much) once you were in the second half.

PS – By the way, today’s 5K event was won by 2016 Olympian Laura Whittle in a time of 16:45!

Results for the Tempo 10k Winter Series, Race 3, 27-Dec-2016

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following report:

Now that Christmas has been and gone time for Race 3 at Illmington. Leaving the house for the first time in ages I inhaled deeply, this was the smell of Freedom and I wanted more. As I made my way into the heated seat of the waiting vehicle I realised it had become more snug since I last graced it with my presence, this just confirmed what my tightly fitted club vest had hinted at earlier. Oh well. New Year New me right? As we made our way to Stratford it felt like we had forgot something and unease crept in, a quick ping and we soon realised that something was Kevin, Kevin Who?

Later as we all assembled in the freezing cold a figure emerged from Shadows, it was a dodgy looking fella wearing a snood, hat and gloves looking like he was ready for rehab. With just eyes for identification it was hard to tell if his shaking body reflected a man who was going cold turkey or a guy battling winter temperatures. We can confirm this was our Kevin though!

The run itself was pretty much as every other, although I don’t think this sleepy Illmington Village knew it was a bank holiday as essential tree maintenance took place on route and also the local bin collection. It was tempting to run in front of the bin lorry and hold it up just to let out years of pent up frustration at being stuck behind one on so many occasions! Support was impressive with the ‘Massey Massive’ spectating and cheering on route. We bring this to a close as we all gathered in anticipation of the arrival of lady Victoria Hand. I looked up to see a lady dressed in fancy dress as ‘Spyro’ just beat Vickie the Sphinx Minion to the finish. I knew in my heart that this would be a bitter pill to swallow. Oh and may as well put it out there she was also wearing a Christmas pudding hat. You’re welcome Vickie!! However we do always like to find a positive and that comes in the form of some new material for repetitive jokes for the foreseeable future. We asked Vickie to have her picture taken with Spyro but she POLITELY declined.
