Lisa Abbott has provided the following report:
What else to do on a bank holiday weekend but find a local race and make a day of it? So with this in mind some Sphinxes, Kevin, Victoria and Lisa headed off to the Birmingham 10K. Once we arrived in the swanky New street a pre race breakfast was a must. then it was a question of how many Sphinxes does it take to find the start? Our Strategy ; follow anyone with high vis clothing (legal stalking) so off we went following our carefully selected new leaders. However we soon realised that the start was unlikely to be in the Bull ring and we had to confess to our new friends that we were following them though we promptly changed direction when they informed us they were going for a ‘pit stop’ So with newbie Victoria Hand making her Sphinx début excitement levels were peaking. In Vicki’s own words she had “All the Gear” but “No idea” Not exactly true as this girl managed to knock 6 minutes off her 10K PB. The atmosphere was amazing as we danced our way over the start line and around B’ham, even running a different terrain of carpet through the cricket ground. Rumours were that our performances were enhanced by carpet though not confirmed! We were met at the finish by Online Internet sensation part time spectator Imran Ali who later went Awol with a medal and hasn’t been seen since.
