Results for the EMGP Rugby 6, 14-May-2014

A tremendous Sphinx turn-out for the second E.M.G.P. event of the season at Rugby, with 19 of our runners taking part.

A warm evening and no breeze made for comfortable running conditions.

Strange race this one with a quite bizarre start; traffic is stopped by a couple of marshalls, you step off the pavement onto the road as quickly as you can and then the race referee simply barks out the order ‘Go!’. Then follows the fastest first mile you’re ever likely to run as you descend into the Rugby countryside. The second mile levels out, then the third is a slow climb where Kev Naughton comes trundling past as usual, shaking his head and giving you that knowing look (“went off too quick, didn’t you?”). A couple more ups and downs, then a final long one mile straight before turning into the field to finish.

Notable performances from Ash, 9th overall and 2nd in M40 category (33:24), Kev 5th in M55 category (40:26), Dorota 5th in FS category (42:12), a 6 -mile PB (there may be others!) and 3rd in F50 category for Jane Edwards (44:51), Tom 3rd in the M70 category (53:51).
