10 Sphinx runners headed for Northampton in awful weather last night to do the Corby 5. Fortunately, on arrival, the rain had ceased and conditions were nigh-on perfect for running.
The course itself starts two-thirds of the way up a hill, then comes the longest downhill section (almost a mile) that you are likely to encounter in a race, followed by a flat mile and a half, then the proverbial sting in the tail as you climb slowly back up the initial hill, past the start line again before turning left into the resplendent grounds of East Carlton Country Park.
Another tremendous run by Ash, who finished 2nd in his category and 6th overall (27:19). Other notable performances came from Kev (34:15) and Dorota (34:47), who both finished 5th in their respective categories, Tom who came 2nd in his and Andy, who got himself a 5-mile PB (34:38). Thanks to Rob, Andy and Fi for driving and also to Andy for providing the natty pre-race attire which Janine will be selling at the club tonight (see photos).
Next race Tuesday 10th June, Banbury 5.
