Thanks to Mitch for the following report:
With local events such as Centurion 5 and the Warwick Half both cancelled we went on the hunt for an off-road run that might just have survived the weather and found an absolute gem! The Peatling Challenge, starting at the village hall in Peatling Parva, consisted of a seven-mile loop, all off-road (more xc Wayne!), through the scenic South Leicestershire countryside. This was another run raising money for the local community and its facilities, organised and supported by the villagers themselves. The route itself took in the idyllic villages of Shearsby, Bruntingthorpe before returning to Peatling Parva. The course was predominantly on footways, tracks and fields with a small stretch of road back into the village to finish. Snow on the ground added to the picturesque views and made the run even more enjoyable. We also came across a steepleless church and a couple of llamas, as you do…. And, great (free) food at the end: cakes, flapjacks, cobs (as they say in Leicestershire) filled with hot pork and stuffing with apple sauce or ham and mustard and as much tea and coffee as you could drink. Great value for £10 (even better if you did the 14 mile route) with an EDIBLE gingerbread medal on a ribbon at the finish. All in all a great way to spend a Sunday morning (the photos don’t do it justice).
