Result for the North Eastern Harrier League XC (Thornley Hall Farm, Peterlee), 10-Feb-2018

February 12, 2018

Thanks to Catherine Gough for the following report and photos:

“The future of distance running in Durham is coloured orange” according to a Durham City Harriers coach. This is my first season running in the North Eastern Harrier League cross country, running in an orange vest. You can’t fail to notice the North East is very hilly, making the Newbold Comyn hill look flat in comparison! All the children, men & women run in the the same place on the same day. It was a strange experience to be in 3rd position for the first 2 miles of a cross country race, as they have a handicap system for their league (see below for the rules). I finished in 8th overall so I should move up to the medium pack next time in March. As I still have Sphinx as my first claim club I couldn’t count in their team Rules: All athletes who have not run in the NEHL previously start in the Slow Pack. The medium pack sets off 1 min 40 after the slow pack (25 seconds per mile), with the fast pack setting off 1:40 after the medium pack. The senior women’s race is approximately 4 miles and a top 10% finish sees you promoted into the next highest pack. Male Veterans Over 65 may, if they wish, take part in the Senior Women’s races - I was a bit confused seeing a couple of men starting with us until someone pointed this out!
