Thank you to Sally-Anne for the following write up
On Saturday 5th July I took part in the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon. This is a point to point half marathon starting in Wolverhampton and ending at Brindle Place, Birmingham. It is a staggered start due to running on canal towpaths. Each start time has around 100 entrants, however this year they staggered them even more. Just to avoid crowding on the canal towpath. It is a good varied terrain of gravel, tarmac, grass and bricks..not to forget the 15 canal bridges that you have to cross along the way. At around mile 4.5 you have a 329 metre tunnel to which they advise to wear head torches. They do light it up as best as they can, but i definitely recommend a head torch as the surface is not level and is very narrow. We had great weather for a runner however, this added to the challenge of the canal bridges that became very slippery. Not a course to expect much support from spectators as they would only be people on the barge boats. A good run if you really prefer to be in your own head. Water stations each 3 mile intervals supplied electrolytes along with water. Obviously the best part of most races is the goody bag at the end.
