Joint captain, Fiona Quinn, gives us her account of the day:
We gathered in the sports centre to collect our numbers then we made our way across the leisure centre to pitch our tent and get the Sphinx AC flag flying high!!! Once we were ready to go we had to have the pre-race team photo, which is of course standard practice!
Comment needs to be made to Monika’s very clean off road trainers (they won’t be like that for long!!!) and to Helen for bringing the table with no legs .
The start line was in a field which is overlooked by a railway bridge, which I did not know at the time but we would have to run up towards later in the race…. twice (thankfully it was nothing like the hills at Beachy Head!). After one false start the race began and it consisted of one small lap and then two large laps weaving in and around different fields. The course was well marshalled and any tree roots that could be tripped over were highlighted so to avoid injury (and compo claims!).
After the race we all enjoyed a well earned hot cup of tea and a cake (or three) before making the trip back down the M6.
