Weather cooled down to good conditions again. Good mixture of run route through city then a good long section of city parks then final 4 miles along Mersey. Great run and t-shirt, chunky medal and a beer token! Would recommend this half and it has music every mile.

Just to let you know that I completed 80km(50 miles) at Trail Attack 24.The event was in the Heart of England forest and was 10K laps all off road and on trails.The object to do as may 10k laps as possible in 24 hours.The winner did an amazing 170k and to put that in perspective the second and third runners only managed 130KThe course was very hilly for the first 7k with the last 3k zig zagging through one field with the camp site in site less than a few hundred metres away and the ground was very dry and rutted not ideal for running on and you had to watch your step all the times.
The bank holiday weekend brought two things to this parkrun update: plenty of parkrun tourism and an update to the pakrun competition progress.
Lore Paterson was a first-timer at Forest of Dean, The Carvers were first-timers at Hampstead Heath, Vicky Brewin was a first-timer at Arrow Valley and Steven Osmond was a first-timer at Conwy.
34 Sphinx runners took part in the third race in the Warwickshire Road Race League. It was also Sphinx’s designated 5-mile handicap race, as Jackie Stuart describes:
New members may not be aware of our one-off handicap races. The 5 mile run at the Ryton 5, the 10 mile run at the Rugby 10 and the half-marathon run at Kenilworth. The handicapper predicts times for all members and whoever beats the predicted time by the most is the winner.
Only 6 runners managed to beat the time set by the handicapper, and it was very close. Pete Fahy beat the handicapper by the most – 42 seconds with Collette O’Keefe in 2nd position – 41 seconds. It was an extremely hot evening and this may have affected many runners’ times, it certainly affected mine!!
8 Sphinx runners made the trip over to Corby to complete the Corby 5, which is part of the East Midlands Grand Prix series. Well done to Tom and Kev for finishing 2nd and 4th in their categories.
The next race in the series is the the Banbury 5 on Tuesday 6 June.
6 Sphinx athletes completed this popular sprint triathlon that is organised by Coventry Triathletes. Thanks to Rachael for pre-sprint-tri braid services, Andy and Sophie for post-race refuelling and hospitality and Imran and Kev for support.
Bryan Pears swam 1.2 miles, then cycled 56 miles and finally ran a half-marathon, all in less than 6 and a half hours!
Mark Moran was a part of a relay team at the event and finished the half-marathon leg in 1hr 52min.

You’d have thought that this would have been one of the better half marathons, nice and flat along a disused railway line in the Derbyshire Peak District. Unfortunately not, despite the nice views over the rolling hills, the course itself was a 12 and a half mile slog along a compacted trail where the old track used to be, but with zero deviation, so mile after mile of the same…… Last half turned off and followed the canal, but we’d lost interest by then. Nice to run with our daughter though (and her fella and his dad) but that unfortunately was the only highlight.
